• Gardeners Harvest - July 20, 2024

It is about that time when we begin to think about all of the wonderful produce that we can’t possibly eat at home or share with neighbors, friends and relatives. Here are three ways that you can share your bounty and in this order: Put items in the boxes attached to the western fence of the outside of the Garden; share items with the Market Garden when it opens in August; and finally, as your garden winds down in the fall, let the Steering Committee know and we will make sure it gets to a community shelter or hunger program.

Free Food — As the garden season progresses, gardeners may enjoy a garden bounty. If you have produce that you aren't able to use or give to friends and family, please consider making it available to passers by. Kentucky Garden will place several "Free Produce" boxes on the fence near the W. 38th Street gate. Just place your garden bounty in the box. We will monitor the box to make sure that all produce offered is suitable.

Market Sales — When Kentucky Garden Saturday market sales begin in August you can donate your excess produce to the market sale. Pick your peppers, tomatoes, beans, squash etc. on Saturday morning by 9 am and bring it to the tables that are set up for the sale.

Garden Gleaning — When the season winds down gardeners may choose to stop gardening even though the harvest is not complete. Please don't let that food go to waste. Contact Daved Thonnings (dthonnings@gmail.com). He will make sure that the produce that remains in your garden is donated to a shelter or hunger program.
