Steering Committee

The Steering Committee of Kentucky Garden coordinates garden activities. Members of the Steering Committee are gardeners and are unelected.

Any gardener is eligible to serve on the Steering Committee. Leadership on the Steering Committee is voluntary and may rotate. One designee serves as Treasurer. Please see below for Committee roles and duties.

The Steering Committee meets on the third Saturday of every month.

Kentucky Garden Steering Committee Role and Duties

The Steering Committee meets monthly (currently on the third Saturday morning of the month) and performs the following responsibilities:

  1. Sets Garden Calendar

  2. Sets and Maintains Kentucky Garden Rules

  3. Sets and Collects Garden Fees

  4. Convenes Returning Gardener and New Gardener Meetings

  5. Exercises Stewardship over Garden Finances

  6. Secures and maintains garden equipment and tools

  7. Handles Gardener issues

  8. Addresses critical issues such as strengthening the diversity of the garden.

Members of the Steering Committee remain members as long as they attend meetings and perform some of the following responsibilities:

  1. Participates in discussion and decision making at Steering Committee monthly meetings.

  2. Participates in as many Kentucky Garden events as possible.

  3. Serves as Kentucky Garden’s liaison with Cuyahoga County Extension Service.

  4. Facilitates the Steering Committee’s monthly meetings.

  5. Coordinates Market Garden activities including Garlic Planting, Market Garden

  6. Sales, planting and work days.

  7. Acts as the liaison between Kentucky Garden and the City of Cleveland and the

  8. Councilperson whose ward the Garden is located in.

  9. May volunteer to serve in additional garden-related roles.
